Gadauner Gorge closes over the winter

Gadauner Gorge closes over the winter

chronicle

Sunday was the last day on which it is possible to visit the “9 Places, 9 Treasures” winner. The winter closure will apply to the Gadauner Gorge near Bad Hofgastein (Pongau) from Monday.

The Gadauner Gorge in Bad Hofgastein won the election as Austria’s most beautiful place in 2024 in the ORF program “9 Places – 9 Treasures”. For the first time, the coveted award, which has been presented since 2014, went to a Salzburg natural jewel. The wildly romantic gorge impresses viewers with its unique natural beauty and geological peculiarities.

Gorge opens again in spring

Since the gorge won the ORF television show, visitor interest has increased enormously, according to the local tourism association. The next opportunity will come again in spring. Gorge as a highlight of the Gastein High Trail

The gorge is a highlight on the Gasteiner Höhenweg, which has connected Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein at an altitude of around 1,000 meters since 1934. Particularly impressive is the almost 50 meter long Katharinastollen, which leads through the massive rock and offers views of a waterfall. Hikers can reach the now award-winning gorge via the Gasteiner Höhenweg from several starting points: From Bad Hofgastein the path leads from the parish church through the Marienwald to Café Gamskar, while access from Bad Gastein (Pongau) is possible either from the town center or from the Kötschachtal.
