Weather models predict freezing temperatures and snow for all of Germany

Snow and frost are expected to arrive in Germany from mid to late November. Various weather models predict an onset of winter. In the south of Germany there is a risk of temperatures as low as -22 degrees.

Where previously it was a quite pleasant and, compared to warmer, November, a frosty onset of winter is now approaching. From November 19, 2024, cold and snow can be expected throughout Germany.

As meteorologist Dominik Jung reported on Monday (November 11, 2024) at wetter.net, “winter can be seen” in the European model weather maps. From Friday, November 22nd, “there could even be a thin blanket of snow in northern Germany, but also up to five centimeters of snow in the center of the country, in the southeast and in the west,” said Jung.

“Purely speculative”: Weather models predict 15 centimeters of fresh snow

Cold air masses precede this. On Tuesday (November 19, 2024), temperatures at high altitudes are expected to drop to -7 degrees. The maximum temperatures during the day should then be around 0 to 7 degrees. “On Friday, November 22nd, there will be permanent frost down to -2 degrees per day in the center and south of Germany,” explained Jung.

According to the weather model, it can get really frosty on Saturday (November 23, 2024). “But this is all purely speculative,” explains Jung. There is a threat of up to -11 degrees in southern Germany, and in some Alpine valleys the weather models are even predicting a crisp -22 degrees. In the center of the country the temperatures are down to -7 degrees, in the north of Germany it is -2 degrees.

According to the American weather model, which takes global weather from short to long term into account, Germany should be completely covered in snow from Sunday (November 24, 2024). The closer you get to the Alps, the more snow you can expect. 15 to 20 centimeters of fresh snow can be expected around Munich; in Hamburg with around 3 centimeters.

With a view to Franconia and the coming week, meteorologist Stefan “Wetterochs” Ochs predicts weak winds, high fog and drizzle. From Wednesday (November 13, 2024) the temperatures will decrease and “can cool down to -3 degrees at night,” said Ochs.
