This is how you prepare your heat pump optimally

Munich (ots) –

When temperatures drop, it is particularly important that the heating works optimally. A well-maintained heat pump ensures pleasant warmth even in sub-zero temperatures and saves energy. An E.ON expert explains how, with a few targeted steps, you can ensure that your system runs reliably and efficiently in winter.

Keep an eye on technical aspects

“Compared to oil or gas heating, the heat pump is a real miracle of efficiency. In short: it generates three to four kilowatt hours of heat from one kilowatt hour of electricity and is therefore significantly more efficient than modern oil or gas heating systems. It is important that you check the individual technical components regularly and adjust settings if necessary – now is a good time for this, explains Claudia Häpp, head of product development at E.ON. This includes, for example, the heating curve. This determines how much heat the heat pump delivers at different outside temperatures. The outside temperature sensor should also be checked and, if necessary, cleaned so that it works properly. At the same time, you should check whether the display shows error messages that may not have been noticed before.

Practical tips for optimal heating performance

As with any heating system, you should also think about the classic things: vent the heating circuit and – if available – the radiators, check the insulation of the pipes and check the heating water. Regarding the heating water, a specialist company may need to refill or replace the water. All of the points mentioned ensure that the heat distribution works smoothly and the heat pump works efficiently.

“Another important but often underestimated point: the heat pump’s outdoor unit should be free and clean. This ensures optimal air supply and therefore efficient heat output,” explains Claudia Häpp. Therefore: Regularly remove leaves or twigs, check the outdoor unit for dirt and other contaminants and keep the device free of snow. No objects, such as garden furniture that is not used in winter, should be placed too close to the outdoor unit or in use. be placed in the air flow.

In freezing temperatures, it is important that the heat pump’s frost protection function remains activated – even if the house is unused for a long time. They prevent the system from freezing at very low temperatures.

Don’t forget professional maintenance

Just like with a car, the better you look after it and have it serviced regularly, the longer you can use it. You should therefore have the heat pump checked annually by a specialist. You can accurately assess the condition of the heater, replace wearing parts and ensure the efficiency of the system.

When it comes to “cleanliness”, it would be a good idea to add “free from snow”. In areas with more snow, such as the foothills of the Alps, the heat pumps are placed on small platforms so that they do not immediately sink into the snow.
