“People must heed advice to curb climate change” – SABC News

Climate expert Prof Walter Musakwa says people have no choice but to adapt as temperatures continue to rise around the world.

The latest studies from the European Union’s Copernicus climate change service show that temperatures have been high over the past ten months, although there has been a sharp drop in the past two months.

Experts say this year will also be the first in which the planet will be more than 0.5 degrees hotter than in the pre-industrial era.

Musakwa, from the University of Johannesburg, says people should heed the authorities’ advice on curbing climate change.

Masakwa says: “It is having a negative impact on people’s lives, especially in terms of livelihood. People will not be able to make a living that they are used to, for example in agriculture, it will be difficult to farm due to the high temperatures and lack of water will lead to plant stress.” – Reporting by Avhapfani Munyai.
