U of Oregon official placed on leave over video denigrating Trump voters

According to KDRV NewsWatch12, an official who oversees Greek life at the University of Oregon was placed on leave last week for posting a profanity-filled video in which he insulted supporters of President-elect Donald Trump.

“If you voted for Donald Trump, you can literally go fuck yourself,” Leonard Serrato, the university’s associate director of fraternities and sororities, said in an Instagram Story. “If you’re so sad about your groceries being expensive, get a better paying job. Do better in life. Get a damn education. Do something. Because you’re fucking stupid. And I hope you jump off a damn bridge.”

The university condemned Serrato’s comments.

“The University of Oregon finds the statements made in the video abhorrent and not consistent with our values or mission,” the university said in a statement. “We appreciate the conflict between his statements, his role in student life at the university and our institutional values.”

The statement also noted that the position had been eliminated and that the university was “reviewing the matter within the framework of university policy and the individual’s role as a public servant.”

“As a public university, we take seriously our duty to create an environment that welcomes diversity of thought and respect consistent with our educational mission,” the statement continued. “As we investigate, we are providing support, including mental and emotional health resources, to concerned students and staff.”

Serrato’s comments also drew a reaction from Donald Trump Jr., Fox 12 reported. The video was “disgusting, but not surprising that a public university employee would speak like that about more than half the country,” he said.
