Beta blockers after a heart attack do not benefit everyone

The aim of this substudy was to find out how beta-blockers affect self-reported symptoms of anxiety and depression impacted. For this purpose, Leissner’s team examined 806 patients from the REDUCE-AMI collective. Half received beta blockers after the heart attack, the other half did not (unblinded). At three points in time (hospital admission, six to ten weeks and 12 to 14 months after the infarction), the researchers asked the patients about their anxiety and depression symptoms using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.
