Major drug peddler arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 14 lakh in Sambalpur | Bhubaneswar News

Sambalpur: Excise sleuths arrested one on Tuesday Drug dealers with 140 grams brown sugarworth 14 lakh rupees. The 36-year-old trafficker was nabbed from Sunapali area under Dhanupali police station limits Sambalpur.
He was identified as Sheikh Sabir of Sunapali. According to the excise officials, the accused along with one of his employees came from Kolkata on Monday evening and carried the brown sugar in one go.
Acting on a tip-off, the tax officials also boarded the same train and chased Sabir. As the train slowed down near Fatak in Sambalpur town, the accused, sensing the presence of the officials, jumped down from the train and fled.
Aware of his movement, the excise personnel had deployed their officials in Sunapali area throughout the night. When Sabir returned home around 7am on Tuesday, he was caught by the tax personnel. However, the other defendant managed to escape.
Asit Kumar Mallick, deputy superintendent of police (excise), said, “They both went to Kolkata to bring brown sugar. Most of the time they take 5 grams of brown sugar and make 40 to 50 sachets which they sell for 400 to 500 rupees each.” . They are historians. The raw drugs are available there for Rs 100,000 and are sold at higher prices in other markets.
