The campaign for Black Ops 6 leaves a wish

The campaign for Black Ops 6 leaves a wish

A few days ago Activision asked me if I wanted to take a closer look at the new Call of Duty and I said yes. What interested me most about Black Ops 6 was whether you learned something new and how good the new campaign is.

I was completely entertained by it and it’s much better than last year. I also found it better than in previous years. Some levels (zombie) seem a bit out of place, but others (espionage) I really liked. And Black Ops 6 looks really good, I also looked at it with a patch on the PS5 Pro.

And yes, I have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and could play it there at no additional cost, but I consciously chose the PS5 as the platform for the game (more on that soon). But I would change one thing here.

Call of Duty: Separate single player and multiplayer

I don’t play a lot of multiplayer, but especially no shooter, the last time was with CS 1.6 20 years ago. But although the campaign is good, entertaining and varied, the story is a bit thin and, above all, over very quickly.

On average, according to users and other media, the campaign is around 8 hours long, I even finished it a little quicker. For such an expensive game, that’s quite short. But I also understand it, because the package still consists of the very large multiplayer part and the campaign is actually more of a small addition.

While the campaign no longer felt like DLC this year (which was the fall of 2023), it also didn’t feel like a full game. And when it really got going at the end, it was suddenly over. A little more depth and I would have liked to have gotten 4-5 more hours out of it.

That’s why I would slowly separate campaign and multiplayer. Then one team could calmly focus on the multiplayer content I had previously provided and another team wouldn’t always have to clap on a campaign by the deadline.

But I suspect that Microsoft, like Activision before it, isn’t very interested in it either, because the cash cow is the multiplayer part. Which is a shame, because I definitely don’t recommend the new Call of Duty to those who only play single player. Unless you use the Xbox, then just play it briefly with a subscription.

So, Black Ops 6 is definitely fun as a single player player, I was also entertained and the campaign is much better than in recent years, but it remains the small addition to the game, you can still clearly feel that.
