Delta: Police seize weapons and ammunition hidden in the engine compartment

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, in pursuit of suspected kidnappers in Asaba, have recovered an AK-47 rifle with an illegible piercing number, two pump-action weapons, a magazine and eight rounds of live AR ammunition hidden under the compartment of a vehicle .

Twenty-one rounds of live cartridges and an operational vehicle were also recovered.

Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad bravely pursued the suspected kidnappers all the way to Ezenei, along the Asaba/Benin Expressway in the state capital, forcing them to jump out of their vehicles and make a hasty escape towards the city fleeing nearby bush with gunshot wounds, cars left behind.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, on Saturday: “On 27/11/2024, at about 9:45 p.m., I responded to a distress call from the command’s control room regarding a kidnapping incident along DLA Road, Asaba, where four. “Armed gangsters operate in a Toyota Camry 2.4 Model, Reg. No. No. Enugu BLF 490 AA, kidnapped a male and a female victim (names withheld) and also took away a Toyota Camry vehicle belonging to a woman.

“Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, upon receipt of this information, directed the Special Squad of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Command to ensure that the hoodlums are arrested and the victims are rescued.”

“The Commander, CSP Labe Joseph, led operatives of the unit and launched an intelligence-gathering operation tracking the suspected kidnappers along the Asaba/Benin highway to Ezenei. When the hoodlums saw the police approaching them, they fled and turned towards Oko Market Road to escape.

“But the team bravely pursued the gangsters and forced them to jump out of their vehicles, make haste and flee into the nearby bush with gunshot wounds, leaving the cars behind.”

“Weapons and ammunition were seized during a search of the vehicles.”

Edafe reiterated the Commissioner of Police’s assurances to residents that the command would do everything possible to ensure that the fleeing suspects were arrested and brought to justice.
