(Original November 20, 2024) Thunderbird 8 for Android was released as the last version at the end of October. But of course there is no standstill. The mail app will of course be further developed. The export of Thunderbird 128 data has now also been improved.

Today the first beta of Thunderbird 9.0 was released. Now use the account initials as the display name, which improves customizability. And the account icons also stay in the same position when selected. But other improvements and corrections have also been made.

  • The IMAP ID command uses Thunderbird for Android to better distinguish it from Thunderbird Desktop
  • Unified Inbox is only enabled when multiple accounts are configured
  • Updated listing screenshots to remove calendar icon from mockup
  • The size of the listing icons has been unified across all beta and release versions

  • Corrected default action to delete messages for QR imported accounts. Please check your Fetch mail settings!
  • Text in all button variants now centered
  • Fixed several crashes
  • Ignore invalid DNS responses when searching for server settings during account setup
  • Retrying after an error retrieving folders during account setup no longer causes the application to crash
  • The folder drawer updates correctly when account configuration changes
  • When you start, a distinction is made between light and dark themes

It looks like Mozilla K9 is now shutting down. Both versions were updated two weeks ago. Now nothing is visible in the tags. But wait and see.

(Update November 30, 2024): Thunderbird 9.0 and K-9 Mail for Android as Beta 2

Tonight Mozilla released the second beta of Thunderbird 9 as Beta 2. This time there is also an update for K-9 Mail. The release notes indicate that you can support K-9 Mail financially.

Changes for both are:

  • New: Added help text with a link to the support page for Gmail login issues
  • Changed: Updated the donation text to make it more appealing.

Today the 3rd beta for Thunderbird 9.0 and K-9 Mail was made available, there is a new function here (well new is good) and two changes that were made.

  • New: Added hyperlink to the Thunderbird website on the financing page
  • Using autoconfiguration server after MX lookup for email providers
  • Messages are now always marked as read when archived (Thunderbird 9 only)
