Loiter Galleries launches exhibition “Light Streaks” – press telegram

Last but not least, December is a month of lights.

In keeping with this theme, Loiter Galleries will host an opening reception for its exhibition “Light Streaks,” which features a collaboration between Long Beach-based artists Kati and Ivaylo Angelov, this Saturday, December 14th at 6 p.m

This experimental showcase combines Ivaylo Angelov’s abstract mixed media paintings with Kati Angelov’s projection mapping animation.

By fusing these two disparate media – the haptic and structural with the blurry and ephemeral – “Light Streaks” hopes to spark a visual dialogue that challenges conventional artistic boundaries.

The juxtaposition of the centuries-old practice of painting with the modern technology of projection art makes this exhibition fascinating.

“The two mediums are not intended to coexist,” Vinny Picardi, co-founder of Loiter Galleries, said in a recent press release. “This is a unique experience, not just for Long Beach, but for the art world as a whole.”

In other words, it’s something you just have to see to believe.

Although the Angelovs, the married couple, bring decades of expertise to their craft, this is their first exhibition together.

Following the opening reception for “Light Streaks,” the gallery will be open Thursday through Saturday and Sunday afternoons to all art enthusiasts, technology enthusiasts, and anyone curious about new forms of expression.

“Christmas in Vienna”

This weekend, Musica Angelica will bring the festive charm of old Vienna to life with their “Christmas in Vienna” winter concert series.

These performances, led by music director and world-famous organist Martin Haselböck, promise to combine the warmth of festive traditions with the sophisticated elegance of baroque and classical music on period instruments.

The concerts will feature works by composers you know and love, including Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

In addition, Joseph’s younger brother Michael Haydn also wrote beautiful church music that will be heard in the show.

Is there anything these three composers have in common? Shopping in Vienna.

“Vienna has hosted the December markets since 1296, so they were likely popular with Joseph and Michael Haydn as well as Mozart,” Musica Angelica said in a recent press release.

Finally, the delicate and groundbreaking composer and music theorist Arnold Schönberg, a native of Vienna and a longtime resident of Los Angeles, will be honored in this weekend’s concerts as part of his 200th birthday celebration – not with his dissonant music, but with his own “Christmas music,” one of the rare pieces in which he devotes himself to tonality.

Musica Angelica’s tasteful program spans centuries and styles and offers exceptional holiday enjoyment.

The show begins this Saturday, December 14th at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Long Beach, 241 Cedar Ave.. Another show will take place on Sunday, December 15th at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. 540 S. Commonwealth Ave., at 3 p.m

This weekend, celebrate Vienna’s musical heritage and the Christmas season with Musica Angelica. Tickets range from $40 to $80.

‘Befana’

When you’ve had enough of sugar plum fairies and toy soldiers – if that’s even possible – the Long Beach Chorale and Chamber Orchestra offers a refreshing holiday alternative with Kirke Mechem’s “Befana.”

Based on a charming Italian folk tale, “Befana” tells the story of a Christmas witch (of the kind-hearted variety, of course) who distributes gifts to children on Epiphany Eve. This delightful production invites audiences to step away from the familiar Nutcracker and experience a warm and festive story in the Italian Epiphany tradition.

In this tradition, an elderly witch known for her kindness and somewhat harsh attitude distributes gifts to children on the eve of January 6, similar to Santa Claus’ approach.

Mechem’s musical setting of “Befana” combines lyrical melodies with a touch of humor and heart, offering an entertaining and original take on the Christmas season.

Performances begin Saturday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 15, at Grace First Presbyterian Church, 3955 N. Studebaker Road. For more information, visit longbeachchorale.org.
