Newcastle United midfielder’s contract extended but could leave in January window – report

An interesting update on this Newcastle United midfielder.

The Mail reports that according to their information, a contract extension has been triggered for Sean Longstaff.

The Newcastle United midfielder’s existing contract will now be extended until June 30, 2026, instead of June 30, 2025.

However, The Mail exclusively adds that Sean Longstaff is also one of the players Newcastle United are looking to sell in January.

This isn’t a huge surprise as I’m sure pretty much any player who isn’t considered a sure starter when everyone is fit would be sold if the right offer came in. Except for maybe just one or two (no specific starters) as well as young players like Lewis Miley.

As a homegrown player, Sean Longstaff obviously has a special PSR advantage if sold for a reasonable amount.

Longstaff’s one-year contract extension obviously gives the club some breathing room if an acceptable offer is not received for the Newcastle United midfielder.

What Newcastle United’s contract situation now looks like (via official club announcements and media reports) as their current contracts end, including this reported Sean Longstaff extension:

End of June 2025:

Dubravka, Schar, Wilson, Lascelles, Krafth, Gillespie, Ruddy, Lewis

End of June 2026:

Burn, Targett, Pope, Almiron, Longstaff, Ashby, Hayden, Trippier

End of June 2027:

Botman, Jacob Murphy, Willock

End of June 2028:

Tonali, Isak, Barnes, Livramento, Bruno, Miley, Joelinton, Alex Murphy

End of June 2029:
