Dortmund – The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety warned against various teas in December. In some cases, the retailer had to remove the items from sale because they contained detectable pesticide residues (more recalls and warnings at RUHR24).

Tea recall: Federal Office warns of another product

Pesticides such as ethylene oxide, which alter the genetic makeup and can cause cancer, should under no circumstances get into food. As the Hamburg consumer advice center explains, the limit value for this substance should be 0.05 milligrams per kilogram (as of 2024). If the gift item can be found in products such as tea, the manufacturer is obliged to warn against consumption and initiate a recall.

In December, a tea was recalled for exactly this reason. The article “ChariTea – Chamomile (chamomile)” was affected. Now the supplier RUST-IMPEX GmbH also has to start a recall campaign. In his product “Green Tea – Princess Java Traditional” As stated in the press release, “limit values ​​for various pesticides” (plant protection products) were found to be exceeded.

Green tea affected by recall: warning about dangerous pesticides

Pesticides are also dangerous environmental toxins and, in the worst case, can cause skin diseases, poisoning and cancer, warns the German Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation. Due to possible health risks, consumers should avoid the following tea as it could contain these gift substances:

If food or products are affected by a recall, consumers are entitled to a refund. You can return the recalled item either to the supermarket branch or directly to the retailer and get your money back. As a rule, it is not necessary to present the relevant receipt.
