It’s the battle of the giants: Mariah Carey’s iconic Christmas hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” makes it to the top position of the US charts again. The singer relegates “Last Christmas” to second place, at least in the States – and celebrates her greatest success to date.

For many, Mariah Carey’s Christmas song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is as inextricably linked to the celebration of love as Wham!’s “Last Christmas”. Every year both titles reliably climb back into the charts and often reach the top. This also applies to Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, which has remained at number one on the charts in the USA for the third week in a row, as “Billboard” reports. The popular singer even broke her own chart record.

With the new top spot, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has remained in pole position on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a full 17 weeks since its release in 1994. The song has replaced Carey’s “One Sweet Day” as her biggest chart success to date. The duet with Boyz II Men stayed at the top for a total of 16 weeks from 1995 to 1996.

“This is amazing! “I will never, ever take this for granted,” the five-time Grammy winner wrote on Monday (local time) in an Instagram story celebrating her new chart success and shared the “Billboard” article.

According to Britain’s Daily Mail, the singer is said to earn between $600,000 and $1.2 million in royalties from her long-running Christmas hit every December. In the official German charts, determined by Gfk Entertainment, Carey made it to second place last week with “All I Want for Christmas”. “Last Christmas” took the top spot here.
