Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has explained why he doesn’t believe Mohamed Salah will leave the club in the coming months. Salah’s contract expires at the end of the season as speculation continues to arise over his long-term future.

Discussions continue between Liverpool and Salah’s representatives, which include his agent Ramy Abbas. It remains to be seen whether an agreement will be reached between the Egyptians and the Anfield hierarchy, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also out of contract at the end of the season.

As things stand, Salah could negotiate a pre-contract with clubs outside England from next Wednesday, when the January transfer window officially opens. Hamann believes that despite the speculation, he only sees one outcome when it comes to Salah’s future at Liverpool.

“Any club would be stupid not to sign Mohamed Salah,” Hamann told BoyleSports via Premier League Odds. “Usually you have to be careful with strikers or attacking players who reach the age of 32. There are no problems with Salah.”

“The question will be, after such a great time at Liverpool, does he want to play somewhere else? He played at Chelsea before – which didn’t work out for him.”

“This is something only he can decide. Personally, I can’t imagine him in anything other than a Liverpool shirt.”

“I’m sure a lot of teams would like to take him. I would give him a few years and then like to see what happens because anything can happen at his age.”

“The way he has spoken, I don’t think he has any intention of leaving. From what I’ve heard, both Salah and Liverpool are negotiating and I think he will stay.”

Hamann also discussed the idea of Salah moving to Bayern Munich should the striker decide to leave Liverpool. Sadio Mane left the Reds to join the Bundesliga giants in a £35million deal in 2022 but only spent a year in Germany before moving to Saudi Arabia to sign for Al Nassr.

Although he doesn’t believe Salah will leave Liverpool, Hamann believes the Reds number 11 would enjoy a successful career at Bayern should he decide to take on a new challenge.

“Bayern had a lot of problems, the coach had to go,” said Hamann. “It can always happen in football. You can make something up and it doesn’t always go according to plan.”

“It started really well for Sadio Mane, he scored goals. I didn’t know if he was happy here – but he often said that it was his dream to play for Bayern Munich. I don’t think it meant anything with Mane, but rather with the situation at the club.

“I don’t think Salah will have these problems because he scores goals and is never injured. He will be the perfect player for any club.”
