Georgia football is the only SEC team without a transfer portal sign

The Georgia Bulldogs are the only SEC school without an incoming transfer, 17 days after the NCAA transfer portal opened on Dec. 9. Even Dabo Swinney and Clemson added an incoming transfer. Georgia missed out on several quarterback and wide receiver targets early in the winter transfer portal window.

Georgia has nine outstanding transfers heading into the Bulldogs’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl.

Every SEC school not in the playoffs has at least four transfer commitments. Georgia (zero), Texas (three) and Tennessee (one) have a combined four transfer commitments. It’s clear that teams in the playoffs are not as active in the transfer portal as teams participating in bowl games.

Head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia don’t typically put much emphasis on the portal, but Georgia typically adds a few significant transfers to fill holes on the roster. Georgia is still in the process of figuring out who the Bulldogs’ quarterback will be in 2025, so it’s an important thing to monitor developments over the next few weeks.

Additionally, Georgia still has a key transfer target in USC Trojans wide receiver Zachariah Branch, who is one of the top ranked players in the portal.
