Crime in the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga!

On Boxing Day, the Telekom Baskets Bonn lost their home game against the Fit One Würzburg Baskets with 81:90. For a long time they looked like the sure winners.

Basketball and Christmas? BBL legend Bastian Doreth (35/375 league games) has experienced this often enough in his career. After his resignation at the end of the past season, the Dyn expert now had his first quiet celebration.

He says: “I enjoyed it very much. Ate a lot, ate deliciously. Spent a lot of time with the family, drank a glass or two of red wine. And not standing in the hall and training on the 24th because you have to go somewhere for the away trip on the 25th.”

The ex-national player (96 caps for Germany) remembers Christmas during his professional days: “You really have to pull yourself together on the 24th, you can’t meet friends and go out.” That’s mentally very challenging.”

One person who had to go away with his team at Christmas is Max Ugrai (29) from Würzburg. He arrived with the Würzburgers the day before and stayed overnight in the hotel.

On the Dyn microphone he says: “Like every year, it was a short celebration.” This is unusual, especially for the young players. That’s why we have to create a Christmas spirit in the team.”

At the beginning in the Telekom Dome (6,000 spectators) this mainly occurs with the home team.

Bonn’s Bodie Hume dished out two three-pointers and a block right at the start, giving the team a 6-0 lead. His third three-point attempt also works (16:8).

Crazy I: The hosts only hit one (!) shot from the two-point range in the entire first quarter.

Crazy II: Hume, who has an average of 8 points this season, already has 11 points in the first ten minutes (21 in total).

At the end of the quarter the score is 29:20.

In the second section, the Telekom Baskets held the lead and were ahead 51:42 at halftime.

Bonn’s Thomas Kennedy during the break at Dyn: “Our offensive is clicking. If we get more stops now, we’ll win.”

A highlight right at the beginning of the third quarter: Würzburg’s Jackson wants to steal the ball from Bähre, can’t stop in time and rushes over the advertising board onto the journalists’ tables behind the basket. He narrowly missed a writer’s laptop – nothing else happened to him either.

Before the final period, Bonn leads 69:61. In the last quarter, Würzburg came within three points (72:69).

Then Jackson is fouled at the center line and then jumps off. The referees decide on three free throws.

Doreth complains: “A brutally bad decision!”

Jackson sank all three attempts – 72:72. Part of a 12-0 run (!) by the guests. Nothing at all works together in Bonn anymore.

In the end, Würzburg brings the game home.

The duel of the BBL top scorer Darius McGhee (Bonn/5 points) and Jhivvan Jackson (Würzburg/21 points) clearly goes to the guest. Before the game, both development players had an average of 20.1 points per game.
