Prime Minister Modi urges states to promote Muft Bijli Yojana across the country

Vijayawada: Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the chief secretaries of various states to ensure that people avail of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which will be implemented across the country by 2026-27.

He held a video conference with chief ministers of various states on various issues such as metro projects, construction of national highways, auction of mineral blocks and implementation of Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in various major cities across the country.

Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad joined the video conference from Hyderabad. Special Minister for Energy, K. Vijayanand, Principal Secretary, TR&B, Kanti Lal Dande, Secretary, Finance Minister, Janaki, Commissioner for Mines, Praveen Kumar and others from State Secretariat at Velagapudi in Amaravati participated.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the Center had approved the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana on February 29, 2024 to increase the share of rooftop solar capacity and enable households to generate their own electricity.

The program will be implemented across the country at a cost of Rs.1,000. 75,021 crore by financial year 2026-27, he said. He said the program would be implemented by the National Program Implementation Agency (NPIA) at the national level and the State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) at the state level.
