As someone with melanin-rich, acne-prone and combination skin, lightening dark spots and treating hyperpigmentation has always been at the top of my skincare routine list.

I have tried chemical peels, peeling serums and masks, as well as other products with brightening and exfoliating ingredients in various doctor’s offices, beauty studios and at home. So, naturally, I was curious to see if a simple turmeric soap would be just as effective—or even make a better difference—at clearing up my pigmentation spots.

Dr. Quynh-Giao Sartor, a dermatologist at Westlake Dermatology in Houston, uses and recommends “Kora Organics Turmeric Glow Cleanser Daily” (around 38 euros). However, I decided on the “Aspen Kay Naturals Turmeric Soap” from Amazon (you can find an alternative to this, which is available in Germany, here on Amazon). It was important to me to test a pure product that did not contain any other ingredients, such as kojic acid, which is found in many other turmeric soaps. In this way, I was able to better determine whether it was really the turmeric that was changing the appearance of my skin.

Aspen Kay Naturals Natural Turmeric Soap contains organic turmeric root powder, organic turmeric root extract, and 100 percent pure turmeric root essential oil. It is said to be suitable for all skin types, including dry and sensitive skin.

During the test, I did not use any other products for lightening or treating pigment spots. I used the turmeric soap once a day as a facial cleanser and made sure that my skin was sufficiently moisturized after use.
