A teenager’s suspected attempt to evade the RIDE program leads to a police chase and arrest

A 19-year-old driver is facing numerous charges after he reportedly tried to evade a RIDE program and flee from police in Essa Township late Christmas night.

According to Nottawasaga OPP, officers were conducting a RIDE program on County Road 90 at 11:50 p.m. and observed an approaching vehicle turn around to avoid him.

According to police, officers pursued the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, but were unable to stop. For reasons of public safety, officers ultimately stopped their pursuit.

Then, just after midnight Thursday, the suspect vehicle was observed by officers conducting patrols along County Road 90, according to Nottawasaga OPP. Officers reportedly followed the vehicle and confirmed it was the vehicle that had attempted to evade the original RIDE program.

According to police, the vehicle pulled into a parking lot and when officers attempted to stop it, the vehicle attempted to flee again. However, police confirm that the pursuit ended with the vehicle crashing into a hydrobox and becoming stuck. No injuries were reported in the collision.

The 19-year-old driver from Angus was arrested and charged with driving while impaired (drug and alcohol consumption and blood alcohol concentration over 80), dangerous driving and fleeing a peace officer.

Her driver’s license was revoked for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The defendant was conditionally released from custody and is expected to appear in court in the future.
