Union promises farmers back agricultural diesel

The end of the energy tax rebate for agricultural diesel
At the end of 2023, the traffic light government announced, among other things, that it would abolish tax breaks for diesel in agriculture and forestry. In March 2024, the Federal Council agreed to a gradual reduction as a compromise.

Until then, agricultural diesel was taxed at a rate of 25.56 cents, 21.48 cents per liter lower than other diesel at a rate of 47.04 cents. Since March 2024, agricultural diesel has only been 12.89 cents less per liter, from 2025 only 6.44 cents and from 2026 nothing at all. The federal government then expects a good 450 million euros more in tax revenue than at the time of full subsidy.
