Top 5 sports moments – 5th place: Jessica von Bredow-Werndl’s dream freestyle

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and the Olympic Games – it just fits.

In the summer she delivered in front of the fantastic backdrop Palace of Versailles the next proof. After double gold in Tokyo 2020, there was no way around the big favorite and her partner in Paris either TSF Dalera BB over.

In the dressage team, the Grand Prix Special, the dream duo, together with Isabell Werth on Wendy and Fredric Wandres on Bluetooth Old, achieved the third Olympic victory of their career.

Less than 24 hours after the success on August 3rd, the freestyle was to follow. In the individual event – the Grand Prix Freestyle – the outstanding dressage rider of recent years once again entered the arena as the favorite.

In the team decision, Dalera and Bredow-Werndl made another mistake that almost cost them the gold medal. A similar mishap was now forbidden in this sunny hour of August 4th, 2024, because the German dressage icon Isabell Werth and Wendy had presented a strong performance.

A little masterpiece was needed – and that’s exactly what the 38-year-old from Bavaria achieved.

In the shadow of one of the most famous castles in the world, Dalera moved to the beat of French chansons under the leadership of Bredow-Werndl. The mare showed piaffen to Edith Piaf.

A performance that was more than worthy of this setting. The reward was the grandiose rating of 90,093, and the station erupted in applause from the audience. That meant being in the lead and being the last rider Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour (DEN) Only finished fifth, then also the fourth Olympic victory of this magnificent career.

Perhaps the most extraordinary of all successes to date: “I am overwhelmed. I can’t describe it, it was so emotional,” she said in her first reaction.

A final freestyle with the unique Dalera, because a few weeks after the last games it was announced that the guarantor of success over the years can now enjoy her well-deserved horse retirement.

Looking back, the historian – after Nicole Uphoff with Rembrandt, Bredow-Werndl is only the second dressage rider to win gold in both the team and individual competitions at two consecutive Olympic Games with the same horse – described the freestyle of Versailles as ” Most beautiful dance floor of our lives together.”

Here you can relive these emotional moments. Check out the highlights of the Grand Prix Freestyle of the individual dressage competition.
