After a promising start to the season, the reserves of TSV Gilching-Argelsried II are deep in the relegation battle in the district league – many challenges characterize the season.

The example of TSV Gilching-Argelsried II shows how quickly times can change in football. In the spring, the footballers from Talhofstrasse were on their way to the district league, now they have to worry about staying in the district league.

The dreams of promotion to the district league were dashed by the relegation of the first team from the regional league. Two teams from a club are not allowed to play in the same league at district level. So the reserve had to stay in the district league. In the summer the team also had to hand over some players to the first team. Despite the upheaval, the start was very good. The reserves remained unbeaten in their first five games, winning two and drawing three. But then came the first shock: Gilching subsequently lost the points from the games against Landsberg (2:2) and Hohenfurch (3:0) because they had used players from the first team without authorization. “That was very annoying, but the long-term consequences were not yet foreseeable,” says TSV coach Robert Brand.

Reinforcement from within our own ranks

Suddenly almost nothing was going well for his footballers. In the following eleven games, the Gilchingers only managed two wins and two draws. As twelfth in the table, they are in the middle of the relegation battle in District League 2. “We will do everything we can to avoid relegation.” “There are still enough games left,” says Brand. The gap to the saving bank is five points. “If we don’t catch up, we’ll just have to make it through relegation.”

In order to be prepared, the Gilchingers want to draw on the TSV men’s team, which is currently the only successful one. “We will bring up one or two players from the third,” says Brand. Gilching’s third team has won eight of its twelve games this season in the B class so far and drawn twice. Brand is also hoping for additional reinforcements from the district league team. There, one or two footballers from last year’s district league squad made the step up to becoming a regular player. After a six-year break, Paul Lindermayr became a key player in the first team again and didn’t miss a single game. “I’m really happy for him,” says Brand about the 28-year-old. Anton Michl, Maximilian Michl, Fabian Boitin, Yasar Dayik and Sebastian Moosbrugger also became supports. However, they will be sorely missed in the second team. “It’s not that easy to cope with,” says Brand.

The season is marked by many injuries

There was also bad luck with injuries. Top performers like captain Hendrik Obermeyer and Julian Batzer were out for weeks. Youngster Joshua Nowood scored three times in six games, but he wasn’t free from injury either. The Gilchinger could really use a goalscorer. TSV only scored 17 goals, only bottom team FC Weil was less successful. The team’s top scorer was summer newcomer Dominik Schäffler with four goals in seven matches. “We have a goal problem, just like the first team,” lamented Brand. That urgently needs to change if his footballers still want to keep the district league.
