Expert highlights security benefits of artificial intelligence

Many people are afraid of artificial intelligence. However, many don’t realize that they already use it every day, including to unlock their iPhones.

7News’ Lindsey Mastis spoke with Andrea Huels, founding director of growth and partnerships at Vody, at Modev’s VOICE & AI conference in Arlington.

Huels said AI is nothing to be afraid of and can even be developed to protect people.

“AI offers so many benefits, such as security in retail and restaurant environments. The biggest concern is the safety of employees and customers, and AI can detect any kind of unusual activity and notify the authorities. If there is a gunshot, they can tell there is some kind of organized retail crime going on. AI can protect you as a customer in these environments,” she said.

When it comes to AI hallucinations and issues with facial recognition and diversity, Huels says it’s important to ensure AI is trained diversely and appropriately.

“That’s why it’s so important in the future that when training an AI model, people of all colors, races, nationalities and people who don’t have access to the Internet must include information about all of the different populations so that it is accurate,” she said.
