We are on the home stretch and are completing the year 2024. Daily average temperatures indicate this is likely San Antonio’s hottest year on record. Fittingly, these final days of the year will be much warmer than normal, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Several months this year have already seen historically high average monthly temperatures at San Antonio International Airport, the city’s official climate observation site. During the spring and summer, San Antonio recorded the fourth warmest May and June and the third warmest August. Last fall, the city had its ninth-warmest September, hottest October and third-warmest November on record.

So far in 2024, the average temperature – an average of daily high and low temperatures since Jan. 1 – is 73.4 degrees, which is 3.5 degrees warmer than normal for the year so far and is on track to be the warmest since records began.

What is the forecast today?

After a stormy but weak cold front swept across Texas late Thursday evening, the weather service expects another upper-level low-pressure system to move through south and central Texas on Friday. But rain won’t be a problem.

“At the surface it makes a back door into the southern Edwards Plateau and Hill Country and that’s it,” the weather service said in its forecast bulletin Thursday. “Dry weather conditions will persist. Partly cloudy skies are forecast with highs in the 70s.”

The extended seven-day hourly forecast for San Antonio shows a gradual increase in afternoon temperatures to unseasonably warm levels, but no chance of rain.
