Daily missions useless? In-game currency drops

The so-called Chrono Tokens can be earned in “Marvel Rivals” through daily missions or by using real money. However, as the developers have now announced, the in-game currency will also expire.

As a free2play shooter it finances itself “Marvel Rivals” Through microtransactions: Players in the hero shooter can spend real money, for example to buy battle passes or unlock cosmetic items. The main currency in the game are the so-called Chrono Tokens, which can also be accumulated by completing tasks, among other things.

However, hoarding the tokens seems useless: As developer NetEase Games has now announced, the in-game currency in “Marvel Rivals” will drop again at the end of each season.

Chrono Tokens earned in-game are not available across seasons

In a post on the official Blog The developers have confirmed that Chrono Tokens earned in-game will not transfer between seasons in Marvel Rivals. Accordingly, each Battle Pass must be purchased again. Since the Chrono Tokens can also be purchased in the game using real money, the developers have come up with a system so that the currency does not expire completely immediately.

If players own the Premium Battle Pass, Chrono Tokens will automatically be redeemed for items at the end of a season. NetEase explains: “If a season has excess and Chrono Tokens remaining and the Battle Pass has not been fully redeemed, the system will automatically request the remaining items in the standard order until there are insufficient Chrono Tokens to redeem any more.” or all items have been redeemed”

However, if the Battle Pass in “Marvel Rivals” is completed before the end of the season, the Chrono Tokens earned in the game will expire. Now the first players have also expressed their displeasure because daily missions are useless after completing a battle pass – the tokens earned will eventually disappear. Things are a little different with the chrono brands, which are acquired by using real money. Part of the currency for the next season is stored here and displayed accordingly.

Marvel Rivals is on the road to success so far

Although players are currently dissatisfied with the withdrawal of the Chrono Tokens they have earned and describe this system as demotivating, “Marvel Rivals” seems to be a success for NetEase Games so far. After recording more than ten million players just 72 hours after the release on December 5th, the 20 million mark was broken last week.

The so-called “Winter Celebration” is currently taking place in “Marvel Rivals” until January 10, 2025. The event offers players of the free2play shooter, among other things, a time-limited game mode with a winter atmosphere. In “Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival”, teams of four players each have to try to paint the map and thereby collect points. As we know from Nintendo’s “Splatoon” series, at the end of the round the team that has marked the largest area wins.
