Mariah Carey has climbed to the top of the charts. There was no getting around “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.

During Christmas week, there is no avoiding festive music in the Official German Charts, determined by GfK Entertainment. Mariah Carey, 55, grabbed the throne on the national hit list with her timeless Christmas hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. Carey replaced “Last Christmas” by the British pop band Wham! in the top position after being in second place the previous week. A real Christmas castling of the two classics.

Christmas albums also dominate

With her new success, frontrunner Carey has placed first for the 21st time, equaling the record of Udo Lindenberg, 78, and Apache 207, 27. Their song “Komet” also had 21 number-one weeks.

The remaining top five of the single charts are also dominated by Christmas music. In third place is “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee, 80, published in 1958, followed by “Merry Christmas Everyone” by Shakin’ Stevens, 76, followed by “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano, 79.

The undisputed Christmas sound also reigns supreme in the album charts. “Christmas” by Michael Bublé, 49, leads here before “Merry Christmas” by Mariah Carey. In third place is “From Zero” by Linkin Park, a rare non-Christmas album.
