The accident occurred at around 12.35 p.m. between the Bad Hersfeld-West junction and the Kirchheimer triangle, as the East Hesse police headquarters announced.

The person who caused the accident first stopped his Mercedes on the hard shoulder and got out. He looked at the scene of the accident, then got back in his car and drove away.

A 24-year-old passenger and a five-month-old baby were injured in the car that was immediately hit by the Mercedes. Both were treated by the emergency services and taken to a hospital in Bad Hersfeld.

A 57-year-old driver was slightly injured but was able to continue her journey. The police put the total property damage at around 31,000 euros.
