incident sport
Location Nuremberg, Lanzarote

Anne Haug, currently the most successful long-distance triathlete in the world, recently put in a remarkable performance by setting a new world record at Challenge Roth. With a time of 8:02:38 hours, she beat Daniela Ryf’s official record of 8:08:21 hours by almost six minutes. Haug, 41 years old, not only demonstrated her excellent form in this race, but also came close to the targeted sub-8 hour mark without the support of pacers.

Haug, who was at the Berthold Brecht School in Nuremberg in mid-December and took a break from training for several weeks, began working as an “ambassador of sport” for the Bavarian state government. Her father, a physical education teacher, had encouraged her to try different sports. Her sporting career began in earnest after graduating from high school at the Markgräfin-Wilhelmine-Gymnasium in Bayreuth and a voluntary social year at the biathlon performance center in Ruhpolding.

Competition and record run

The competition in Roth was not only a triumph for Haug, but also proof of her constant development in the sport of triathlon. She finished the swim in second place with a time of 52:37 minutes, just behind Abi Bedwell. After the bike route, which she completed in 4:27:56 hours, she went into the second transition zone with a lead of 5:30 minutes. Haug was able to build on her lead in the following marathon and finished with a time of 2:38:52 hours, which was the second best marathon time of the day, only surpassed by Magnus Ditlev.

In addition to winning Challenge Roth, Haug also planned to prepare for the Ironman World Championships in Nice after previously being sidelined in 2024 due to physical ailments. The competition in Roth underlines Haug’s extraordinary career, which is not only characterized by successes such as winning the Ironman in Hawaii in 2019, but also by the challenges she had to overcome.

After her successful competition in Roth, Haug will continue her season on Lanzarote, where she will find optimal training conditions and renovate the house she bought in order to best prepare for the upcoming competitions, as BR.de reported. Triathlon Magazine also highlights that Haug has set a standard in long-distance triathlon with her record-breaking time in Roth. She planned to train again at the World Championships in Hawaii in 2025 and reflected on the ups and downs of being an athlete.
