The Pioneers extended their lead to four on the power play when Emily Pohl scored a goal, but Orono finally made it to the ice after the goal.

The Spartans cut the four-goal lead when Minnesota State commit Zoe Lopez pirouetted into the zone and fired a shot over the goalie and into the top corner.

Wisconsin commit Maddy Kimbrel cut the lead in half midway through the third period, putting Hill-Murray up 4-2. Lopez added her second goal and came within one goal thanks to three unanswered points from the Spartans.

The Pioneers showed the resilience of a top-five team in the state when Ellianna Engelhardt’s shot traveled through the goalie’s legs and slowly across the goal line, giving Hill-Murray a two-goal lead.

Adding an empty goal seconds before the end changed the score, but not the result. The Pioneers moved to 10-3-0 and continued their impressive scoring streak, averaging 5.62 goals per game.
