Eintracht Frankfurt delivered a positive first half of the year, despite a disappointing December. Coach Dino Toppmöller calls special games.

Frankfurt – The last impression of 2024 has made the mood at Eintracht Frankfurt a little worse. Nevertheless, the team earned third place with 27 points, and they are currently in the top eight in the Europa League table and would therefore be entitled to advance directly to the round of 16 of the competition. All of this was only possible because the Hessians often outgrew themselves.

The win against Braunschweig was a key moment for Eintracht

Coach Dino Toppmöller explained in an interview with the magazine 11Freunde which duel represented a key moment: “Directly the first game of the season, in the cup against Eintracht Braunschweig.” Due to the mixed second half of the season, it was important to highlight our good summer preparation and the positive feeling with it We started the season, reflected straight away in the results. If we had lost the game, the atmosphere around us would have been negative. But we had mastered the first hurdle confidently.”

In fact, there was already a lot of steam in the boiler in August. After the goalless first 45 minutes, many fans were very concerned that development would continue to stagnate. But then Frankfurt turned around and deservedly won 4-1 in the end. Borussia Dortmund shook off the 2-0 defeat a few days later and went on to win four Bundesliga games in the series.

That’s why the win at Besiktas was important for Eintracht

And in the meantime she won a 3-1 win in the Europa League against Besiktas Istanbul – a very tough match. Toppmöller looked back: “The win at Besiktas was worth a lot more than three points.” During a season there are always moments in which either doubts arise or faith is strengthened: winning in the cauldron of Istanbul left something in your head The player becomes aware that all the effort and hard work pays off.”

Eintracht suddenly found themselves prepared for the challenges that lay ahead of them. Around 70 hours later the ball rolled again and FC Bayern Munich were guests at the Waldstadion. Although Eintracht was literally crushed, they fought back and delivered an “emotional highlight” in the last-minute draw (3:3). And on October 30th, despite an early red card, Frankfurt prevailed in the second round of the cup against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-1): “All of this shows us what we are capable of.” Now it applies to Eintracht, the battery to recharge and build on the strong phases in 2025.
