Myles Garrrett got advice from LeBron James about speaking out; I heard something about comments from the front desk

“I mean, LeBron (advised him) definitely,” he said. “He has seen everything when it comes to the sport and his advice was very valuable. He, his team and just the opportunity to be around them and learn from them have been very useful over the last few years. More things happened along the way. But it was definitely crucial to use my platform and my voice to my advantage and the benefit of my team.”

Ahead of Sunday’s home finale against the Dolphins, Garrett also revealed Friday that he had heard his comments from upper management stating he had no interest in rebuilding and wanted the Browns to show him a plan to compete , before he I will decide whether to ask for a trade or not. He planned to sit down with the powers that be after the season but was approached by someone in the front office.

“A few, a few (conversations),” he said. “We still have room for discussions at the end of the year.”

He said it’s not necessarily an early version of the broader exit interview they will conduct.

“They just wanted to see where I was at and what I was thinking and just tried to keep things in house,” he said.

Do his teammates like the fact that he has spoken out so publicly about avoiding a rebuild? Joel Bitonio also explained Thursday that the chance to win in 2025 will play a big role in his decision whether or not to retire. The Browns also restructured Deshaun Watson’s contract on Friday to ensure he returns and is part of the mix in 2025.

“I think they also want to know what’s next,” he said. “So I haven’t really had a lot of people comment on whether they like my comments or not. Everyone feels the same in some way. But I don’t assume so and will have my answer by the end of the year. The same goes for Joel and we just have to finish strong.”

He said he has never spoken out because “the only more disappointing year was the first year (0-16). I wasn’t in a position to say anything back then.”

As a future Hall of Famer and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett has learned over the years that his voice carries a lot of weight.

“I feel like I’ve been able to earn this position over time,” he said. “I don’t think anyone comes in with that level of respect or, you know, platform. I felt like over the years I’ve proven who I am and we’ve started winning games. I have allowed myself to raise my voice in certain positions. I use this platform for certain things and use my opportunities at the top to talk to upper management about certain things.”
