China takes countermeasures against US military contractors and senior leaders – World

China on Friday announced countermeasures against seven US military contractors and relevant leaders over arms aid and sales to the Taiwan region, pledging to continue taking all necessary measures to resolutely defend its sovereignty, security and development interests.

The decision, made in accordance with the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Combating Foreign Sanctions, will take effect immediately, according to an online statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The movable and immovable assets and other types of assets of these companies and individuals in China have been frozen, the statement said.

Organizations and individuals in China are also prohibited from entering into transactions, collaborations or related activities with the companies mentioned, it said.

The seven sanctioned companies are Insitu, Hudson Technologies Co, Saronic Technologies, Raytheon Canada, Raytheon Australia, Aerkomm and Oceaneering International.

The move comes after Washington last week announced a new round of military aid worth $571.3 million and approved $295 million in arms sales to the Taiwan region.

Mao Ning, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said at a regular news conference on Friday that the US National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025, which took effect on Monday, also contains several negative provisions related to China.

These measures seriously violate the One-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, seriously interfere in China’s internal affairs and seriously undermine the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Mao said.

She said the negative China-related provisions in the NDAA are rife with Cold War mentality, zero-sum thinking and ideological bias.

The provisions, which ignore facts to exaggerate the so-called “China threat” and clamor for US military support for Taiwan, are aimed at finding excuses to increase Washington’s military spending and maintain US hegemony, thereby endangering peace and stability in the region, she added.

“The quest for ‘Taiwan independence’ is doomed to failure. “What the US has done to support the attempt at ‘Taiwan independence’ by arming Taiwan will only backfire,” Mao said, warning that Washington must not implement the negative China-related content of the NDAA.

Mao called on the US to immediately stop arming the island in any form, adding that the US should look at China’s development and bilateral relations objectively and rationally and stop using false words and actions that harm China’s interests.
