Accra, December 28, GNA – MTN Ghana, as part of its social responsibility and charitable support, has donated 140 hampers to mothers who gave birth at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital during the Christmas season.

The baskets, which included baby soap, diapers, wet wipes and laundry detergent, were intended to support mothers and newborns during their stay in the hospital and when they return home.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Corporate Sustainability and Social Officer, Mr. Samuel Bartels, Senior Manager and Regulatory Government Affairs, MTN stated: “This year, MTN Ghana distributed 600 hampers in 16 regions targeting healthcare facilities including Oti Region Ashanti, Greater Accra and other regions.”

He said the initiative aims to demonstrate MTN’s collective efforts to show love and welcome newborns during the Christmas season. He added that MTN has donated 3,500 hampers since 2011, highlighting the importance of sharing during the Christmas season.

Mr Bartels urged people to show love during this festive season by embracing the spirit of giving, saying: “This is one way to bring joy into people’s lives.”

He expressed his deepest gratitude to healthcare workers for their unwavering commitment and support, announced MTN’s upcoming blood drive in February and appealed to the public to participate to save lives.

Ms Victoria Djamoe, Senior Midwifery Officer, Obstetrics and Gynecology, thanked MTN Ghana for the kind gesture.

She highlighted that seven babies were born between December 25 and 26, three of them by caesarean section.

Ms Djamoe said the donation would greatly help the mothers as “some were unable to provide some of the listed items requested from them during delivery.”
