Recall from Fressnapf: Salmonella can cause diarrhea, vomiting and fever

Salmonella multiplies in the small intestine of cats and causes inflammation, which can lead to diarrhea, vomiting and fever. In rare cases, pregnant animals can suffer a miscarriage. Puppies, young animals, pregnant cats and cats with weakened immune systems are particularly susceptible to infection.

Adult animals are generally less susceptible and often show higher resistance, according to the website of Enterosan – a provider of microecological intestinal diagnostics. To avoid a potential health risk, consumers should no longer feed the recalled cat food to their pets.
