The year 2024 brought numerous changes to the automotive market. Some popular models change – you can find an overview here.

Farewells and new beginnings are just as much a part of the car world as they are in normal life. In 2024 it hit some models that have accompanied us for more than a decade. But don’t worry: Most of them already have successors in the starting blocks.

In the summer, the Fiat 500 (Italian: Cinquecento) said Arrivalerci after 16 years of production. Since the company lacked the money for new developments for a long time, the model was kept fresh over the years with many special editions. With success: over 3.2 million copies were sold worldwide, including more than 350,000 in Germany.

But the sweet life was coming to an end. The costs were too high to adapt the little one to the regulations (data security, extended safety equipment) that have been in force for all new cars since the summer. The successor is the 500e, which also has a cute retro design, but significantly more modern technology and is around six centimeters longer. So far it is only available purely electrically. Since there is still high demand for combustion engines, it will also be launched with a mild hybrid system in 2025.

The security and data protection regulations as well as the Euro 7 standard not only mean the end for the Cinquecento, other small and small cars are also affected. One such vehicle that has already had a few years of production under its belt is the Mazda 2. The third generation of the Japanese small car was launched in 2015, and various facelifts also ensure that it is visually and technically up-to-date. At least customers can still order a Mazda2, but the model with the Hybrid suffix has nothing to do with the one that has been retired. The Mazda2 Hybrid is a clone of the Toyota Yaris Hybrid.

The 3.70 meter long Ignis was one of the few small cars to offer optional all-wheel drive. The 3.85 meter long Swift Sport brought a little more oomph to the Swift range with its 129 hp turbo petrol engine as well as wider fenders, thick tailpipes and carbon-look trim. This version changes with the model change. You can read here how the new Swift performs in everyday life.

The Mitsubishi Space Star could boast neither all-wheel drive nor sporty ambitions, but it always set an exclamation mark with its low entry-level prices. The five-door car, which was around 3.70 meters short, was occasionally available for under 8,000 euros, but with prices starting at around 12,000 euros, it was also one of the cheapest new cars in Germany alongside the Dacia Sandero. After twelve years, his final hour came in 2024.
