Apple facility presents flat but completely edge-to-edge iPhone display

Current iPhones, such as the iPhone 16 Pro (available here on Amazon), already appear comparatively bezel-less, but the future of the iPhone could once again bring heavy sadness and slim down around the OLED display, as a report from the supplier industry in South Korea reveals. Accordingly, the Californians have in mind a flat, but still completely edge-to-edge display, the content of which is displayed right up to the edge of the case, in principle like current Apple Watches.

In contrast to what Android OEMs have previously offered in terms of AMOLED displays, Apple’s display vision should not curve on the side, i.e. Apple does not want any visible curves or display content on the edges, which is also the case at the moment Chinese flagships like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which are so popular, have quad curved panels. For the same reason, Samsung’s edge panels, which were previously so strongly pushed, are not an adequate solution for Apple, industry insiders told the industry newspaper.

Both LG and Samsung are currently developing display solutions for Apple’s future iPhones, but both are facing major technical challenges with the desire for a completely flat but still edgeless OLED panel, in particular the “Optically Clear Adhesive Technology” (OCA) required for this. According to experts, it is not yet ready for use and is developing slowly. Currently, such bezel-less iPhones are not expected in 2026 either. According to previous statements from a Samsung Display spokesman, the South Koreans are also working on better under-display cameras for Apple.
