Eight prisons will receive AI-based CCTV monitoring

AI-based CCTV surveillance will be implemented in eight central prisons to detect contraband throws, wall climbs and unauthorized use of mobile phones. The system will be expanded to six more prisons, said Prisons Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar. To increase security in prisons, V-Kavach jammers will be installed in twelve sensitive prisons. These have already been installed at Bathinda Central Jail, which also received an additional CRPF company to improve security.

The department is in the process of equipping all 13 sensitive prisons with X-ray baggage scanners and placing high-security zones where high-risk inmates are housed under video surveillance.
