OG Maco’s family speaks out after rapper’s suicide

OG Maco – real name Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr. – died on December 26th at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after about two weeks of life support treatment.



As confirmed Everything hip hop By his daily manager Poppa Perc, Maco died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. On Saturday (December 28), OG Maco’s family released a statement on Instagram mourning their immense loss.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco,” the post begins. “His life was a testament to resilience, creativity and boundless love. Through his music, his passion and his unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impression.

“As we mourn this immense loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he led – one that will continue to inspire and uplift others. Maco’s influence, both as an artist and as a person, will forever remain in our hearts.”

The family also opened OG Maco’s direct messages to anyone who would like to share a memory or connect with them. They ended the post by thanking everyone who showed their support for him.

On the morning of December 12th, first responders were called to OG Maco’s home after a neighbor heard a gunshot.

“I thought he was dead when I first saw him,” his manager said Everything hip hop at the time. “For us it was about rebranding and releasing (new music) under a completely new pseudonym. We need everyone’s prayers.”

The OG Maco team did their best to quash the death rumors that followed, but people remained adamant. One person wrote: “This breaks my heart so much. May you rest in heaven. Thank you for being my very first friend in Atlanta. For believing in my music before anyone else and for the friendship we shared over the years. You will never be forgotten,” while another said: “Rest in peace brother, you are a true legend and pioneer in this game, you paved the way for much of the industry.”

Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul removed his tribute post when he was told he was still alive, later commenting: “I’m praying for you no matter how you do it.” He has yet to comment on the death of OG Maco not expressed.
