What’s most likely to happen to Trent Alexander-Arnold after he claimed he wanted to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid

Liverpool are just days away from the prospect of three of their superstar players being able to negotiate freely with other clubs.

In addition to the Reds’ breathtaking upswing under Arne Slot, the three quickly expiring contracts this season were the story of the season.

But while there is still real hope that Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will extend their respective stays at Anfield, things are looking bleaker when it comes to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

This weekend, reports from Spain claimed that the Liverpool right-back had decided to leave his boyhood club and join Real Madrid.

Although Liverpool say Alexander-Arnold hasn’t told them he’s leaving, the signs aren’t good for Reds fans.

As concerns grow that they could lose one of their members for nothing, journalist Mark Ogden came forward to provide his information on the situation.

Things in Liverpool should actually be sorted out by now. It is inconceivable that the club has made it to 2025 without signing any of these three key players.

Yet we are there. And with the Alexander-Arnold rumors getting out of control, something has to change soon.

Speaking to ESPN FC on Sunday morning, Ogden said the Liverpool academy graduate is now more likely to leave than stay, as he has been told.

“The word is that Trent is more likely to leave than stay. I think that has now become established,” he says. “But there might be a surprise.”

“I think the stuff in Marca is pretty typical. This is done with the authority of the club itself, so Real’s interest is great.

“Alexander-Arnold has shown no signs of wanting to stay.”

Could Alexander-Arnold leave in January?

It’s rare for a player in Alexander-Arnold’s profile to go so low near the end of his contract and still sign a new contract.

Given the stage of their careers, Van Dijk and Salah’s situation is slightly different. But with Trent, it’s likely that the lack of commitment to a new deal says it all by now.

As a result, there will be segments of the fan base that would rather cut their losses and get him out the door in January. But according to Ogden, that won’t happen.

“I would be surprised if Alexander-Arnold stayed,” he says.

“I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere this month. I think it will be about running out his contract and going to Madrid in the summer.”
