CWI President Shallow clarifies Gregory Nichols

(Trinidad Guardian) The President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Dr. Kishore Shallow, has clarified things regarding the implementation of governance reform in regional cricket. Recently, the directors of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) did not attend a board meeting at which the regional cricket association was scheduled to further discuss and implement the Wehby Report’s recommendations on the governance of West Indies cricket.

Nichols, the BCA secretary, said on a regional cricket radio program discussing the reform proposals: “None of these things speak to the basic assumption in the Wehby report.”

He then asked the president a question: “What four assumptions in the Wehby report are we aware of?” While Nichols was angry, Dr. Shallow calmly replied: “Let me say again that we will implement this Wehby report and the recommendations gradually.” So I have already implemented some resolutions.

“Gregory was part of the meeting where we agreed to some of these recommendations. Now this is a second phase in which we will pass another four resolutions and then plan to introduce more.”

CWI was unable to obtain a quorum for the December 6 governance reform meeting due to the absence of GCB and BCA representatives.

A CWI statement said that GCB and BCA “were not present as they had decided not to appoint two representatives as required by the company’s articles of association.”

The meeting was convened to vote on the implementation of governance reforms proposed in the Wehby Report, which aim to modernize the CWI’s governance framework.

CWI said the notice of this meeting was issued on November 13 in accordance with its constitution.
