Have you tried it yet? On iPhone, you can set a unique vibration pattern for each contact. You can also create it yourself, more on that in a moment.

Of course, this function is “just” a nice gimmick that won’t turn your smartphone usage upside down. But at least you can give your contacts a touch of individuality.

This changes the vibration pattern for a contact:

  1. Opens the Contacts app on iPhone.
  2. Now tap on “Edit” at the top right.
  3. Scroll down and switch to “Ringtone”.
  4. Now tap on the “Haptics” item.

In this area you then choose from a series of predefined vibration patterns. But that’s not all.

Contacts #1

There are already a handful of ready-made patterns if you don’t want to make your own.

Contacts #2

Just tap on the empty field. In a short time you will get a feel for it.

You can create a unique haptic pattern yourself.

  1. To do this, select the “Create new vibration” item.
  2. Tap the empty space to create a vibration. The order and length of the vibration depends on how long the finger rests on the screen.
  3. Stop recording at the bottom right when you’re done. Recording stops automatically after a certain time. Humans cannot absorb forever either.
  4. Then tap “Save” at the top right and enter a name for the pattern.

Complete. The artwork you created now appears in the view under “Own” and can now be selected for your contacts.

Enable vibration in silent mode

For the function described above, the tactile vibration must be activated in silent mode. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Opens Settings on the iPhone.
  • Switches to the “Sounds & Haptics” menu.
  • Now tap on “Haptics”.
  • Activates the “Play in silent mode” option.

Well-known options on the iPhone

In addition to the haptics, there are of course the well-known options, such as changing the ringtone for a contact accordingly. If you are looking for more inspiration, you will find a link to the “Tone Store” in the context menu, which contains new and paid ringtones. To do this you need the iTunes app on the iPhone.

If you have already purchased ringtones, select “All purchased tones loaded” to start downloading your purchases.

The options mentioned are a good solution to personalize your smartphone. For people with visual impairments, a vibration pattern for certain contacts can also be helpful.
