New Samsung leak confirms disappointing camera upgrade for the Galaxy S25 Ultra

New information has emerged about Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy S25 Ultra flagship smartphone that could disappoint camera fans.

Based on information found in files “leaked from the Galaxy S25 Ultra,” according to a well-known leaker Compile debug Complete details about the camera sensor of Samsung’s next-generation flagship were recently revealed. The files detail the camera hardware, which for some might be disappointingly similar to the current Galaxy S24 Ultra, albeit with a significant upgrade.

Galaxy S25 rear camera specs revealed

According to the report, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will adopt the following rear camera sensors:

  • Main camera: 200 megapixel ISOCELL HP2
  • Ultra wide angle: 50 megapixel ISOCELL JN3
  • 3x telephoto: 10 megapixel Sony IMX754
  • 5x telephoto: 50 megapixel Sony IMX854
  • Selfie: 12 megapixel ISOCELL 3LU

If this lineup sounds familiar, that’s because all but one of these camera sensors remain unchanged from the current Galaxy S24 Ultra, suggesting that the Galaxy S25 Ultra won’t deliver a significant camera upgrade, at least in terms of sensor hardware his predecessor. The details also confirm a previous leak from respected tipster Ice Universe, who predicted the same configuration in September.

One big upgrade, however, is the inclusion of a new 50-megapixel ultra-wide module, a significant step up from the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 12-megapixel sensor. The switch to the higher-resolution ultra-wide camera would bring the S25 Ultra in line with Google’s Pixel 9 Pro, which uses a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and possibly Apple’s 2025 iPhone 16 Pro, which A similar ultra-wide camera upgrade should urgently undergo such testing.

Moving up to 50 megapixels would provide more detail in wide-angle photos and more than enough resolution to enable 8K video recording with the ultra-wide camera. However, there is currently no news about whether Samsung might offer this option.

In addition to the significantly improved sensor, the ultra-wide-angle camera is expected to get a new, brighter lens with an F/1.9 aperture that can capture around 34% more light than the Galaxy S24 Ultra version. This improved lens could significantly improve image quality, especially in low-light situations, where Dxomark found that the Galaxy S24 Ultra suffers from graininess due to image noise.

Regardless of camera hardware improvements, we can usually count on Samsung to deliver a range of software and AI-based camera upgrades with each new Galaxy S generation. Everything will be announced at Samsung’s launch event, which is expected to take place in a few weeks, in January 2025.
