There could be disruption in the East of England due to strong winds

A yellow weather warning is in place for the east of England, with “very strong winds expected to cause disruption”, the Met Office said.

The warning is in effect for Wednesday as low pressure systems move across the country, bringing the risk of heavy rain, strong winds and snow in some regions.

In the east, strong winds could affect transportation and there is a small chance of damage to buildings, power outages and the closure of some roads and bridges.

The Met Office A deep low pressure area was expected to cross the UK from the west, bringing gusts of 65 to 75 mph on coasts and hills and gusts of 50 to 60 mph inland.

Unsettled conditions and potentially disruptive wind, rain and snow could affect southern parts of the UK on New Year’s Day.

Chief forecaster Neil Armstrong said: “With such varied and potentially rapidly changing weather conditions, it is important that people stay up to date with the forecast.”
