Traffic officer allegedly killed by cop’s friend sheds light on SAPS crisis – ActionSA

JOHANNESBURG – ActionSA said the murder of a traffic warden, allegedly committed by her police officer boyfriend, highlights a dire crisis within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Chesnay Keppler, 22, was murdered in Eldorado Park earlier this week.

The party’s Dereleen James said domestic violence crimes such as Keppler’s murder underline the urgent need for safety and accountability within communities.

“We also call on the Police Minister and the National Commissioner to take immediate and decisive action to address this tragedy and ensure that justice is served.”

“We call on IPID (Independent Police Investigative Directorate) to regularly update the family of the deceased and the Eldorado Park community on the progress of the investigation.”

James called on investigators to expedite the investigation to ensure successful prosecution of the defendant.

“We also call on the relevant ballistics unit in Johannesburg to prioritize the forensic examination of the firearm used in this crime in order to expedite the investigation.”

“We call for a swift and successful prosecution of Sergeant Buthelezi to ensure justice is served quickly and transparently.”
