Three in custody after high-speed chase in Bertie County

AULANDER, N.C. (WITN) – Three men are in custody after a high-speed chase through Bertie County late Friday evening that reached speeds of up to 127 miles per hour.

According to officials, Deputy J. Jenkins attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 11 near Aulander, but the driver sped off around 9:17 p.m.

Jenkins had been informed that the owner of the car had outstanding warrants out of Wake County.

The chase ended on Millennium Road at the intersection with Hollowell Road in Hertford County when the driver of the vehicle crashed into a field.

After the vehicle drove into the field, two men fled the vehicle while one man remained at the vehicle.

All three men were taken into custody.

Defendant: Eric Reid, 20, of Durham
Charges: fleeing, reckless driving, failure to obey lights and siren, resisting officers.
Held without bail at the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail.

Defendant: Wesley Lyons, 19, of Raleigh
Charge: resisting an officer
Held without bail at the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail.

Defendant: Ra’quan Spruill, 19, of Murfreesboro
Served on an outstanding warrant out of Wake County for fleeing to avoid arrest
Held at the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under a $7,500 bond.

NCSHP, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office and Ahoskie Police Department assisted the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office in the chase.
