After the winter break, there is a lot at stake for VfR Garching. After relegation from the Bayernliga, the footballers want to avoid a free fall into the district league in the second half of the state league. But this undertaking is now likely to be really difficult. Two more players, Felix Günzel (to FC Schwaig) and Robin Oswald (to SpVgg Landshut), have left the squad. It is currently unclear whether a replacement will be signed for the duo by the end of January.

Garching – Felix Günzel was born out of necessity as a center forward before the season due to a lack of alternatives and the experiment became a great success. He started the season with six goals in five games and still has a strong record with ten goals in 19 games at the winter break. After the last league game, Günzel announced that he wanted to change clubs.

The new club has now been established with league leaders FC Schwaig, who are on the way to the Bavarian League. The transfer comes as a surprise because Schwaig has the best attackers in the league. Felix Günzel may return to his regular position in central midfield.

The second departure is the versatile defensive player Robin Oswald, who is returning to his hometown club SpVgg Landshut. He was never able to really assert himself in his favorite position in central defense in Garching. Last season in the Bayernliga he had a permanent place in defensive midfield and today Oswald should play in central defense. At times he was moved to the full-back position, which may be one of the reasons for the change. It feels like the defensive all-rounder never really arrived in Garching.

“We are losing two good guys,” says coach Nico Basta about the two changes. Above all, there is now a risk that the mini-squad from the first half of the season could become even smaller. Even in the preliminary round, VfR had hardly any alternatives on the bench at times. Nico Basta sees problems in central defense in the rest of the season if there are any absences. However, he still sees every chance for his team, which is in a relegation relegation zone, to secure their stay in the regional league. If the Garching team has an injury misery like in the past few weeks, they will have a good team on the pitch. If no new players are hired at VfR Garching by the end of the transfer window at the end of January, then not much can happen for the company to stay in the league. (Note)
