Get these games for under $5 before the Steam Winter Sale ends

The Steam Winter Sale ends later this week, so you only have a few days left to get the games you want. If you’re low on money left in your Steam balance, consider checking out the games that are now on sale at deep discounts. Luckily, there are tons of fantastic games available for under $5 during this Steam Winter Sale, and I’m not just talking about that Okami or Star Wars: Squadrons. If you haven’t played any of the following six titles yet, I highly recommend you pick them up cheaply before the Steam Winter Sale ends on January 2, 2025.

Titanfall 2

Respawn Entertainment’s first-person sci-fi shooter fell short of expectations when it released in 2016, but went on to become one of the most popular FPS games of all time. The silky-smooth feel puts the gunfights on par with those of Call of Duty and Battlefield, although the ability to use a grappling hook to move and summon a mech to strike terror into enemies still makes the multiplayer games unique gives feeling. Given that the creators of the hilarious Comedy Central animated series collaborated on this game, it’s no surprise that it’s one of the funniest games I’ve ever played. It also brings out the 2D paper art look perfectly South Park more than almost any other game based on the series and still looks great over a decade after its release. Stand out was one of the best TV shows released this year. If you enjoyed the series, I highly recommend you take a look at the games it is based on. Of all of them, Fallout: New Vegas (also from Obsidian Entertainment) is considered the best. While you’ll probably need to tinker a bit with mods to make the game run smoother on your PC, Fallout: New Vegas stands out as the best game in the series because of its emphasis on player choice in both narrative and gameplay, not to mention its biting satirical writing. It appears that parts of the second season of Stand out will also take place in New Vegas, so you’ll gain a deeper understanding of what’s going on in the show next season when you play this game. That’s why it makes sense to choose Fallout: New Vegas available during the Steam Winter Sale for $5, down from its usual price of $10.

Helldivers: Dive Harder Edition

Helldivers 2 was one of the breakout games of 2024, but far fewer people played its predecessor. It’s more of an isometric shooter than a third-person shooter, but surprisingly features many of the same elements that make its sequel a hit. You summon stratagems to help you win a fight, find yourself frequently outnumbered and outgunned by alien enemies, and engage in a metagame with other players to fend off the alien threat to Super Earth. I always find it fascinating to revisit the games that served as the building blocks for the video game industry’s greatest hits, as well as the original Hell diver is a prime example of this. Doom

Fall: The Dark Ages will be released sometime in 2025 and caps off id Software’s rebooted Doom trilogy with a game that adds the following Quake-inspired medieval flair to everything. So now is the perfect time to revisit the 2016 reboot that revived the classic hardcore FPS for modern platforms. The original Doom is one of the most iconic games of all time, but 2016 Doom feels just as important to the genre because it felt so subversive in its emphasis on bloody, soulful action and rhythmic gameplay where players alternate between shooting enemies and chainsawing at them for health and ammo to obtain. These days it’s usually priced at $20, but during the Steam Winter Sale, Doom is just $4.
