Viral posts falsely claiming that Rahul Gandhi did not attend Manmohan Singh’s funeral

CLAIM: Members of the Congress party or the Gandhi family did not attend Manmohan Sing’s funeral

FACT CHECK: That’s wrong. Live footage shows Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders paying their last respects to the former prime minister in New Delhi.

Viral posts falsely claimed that senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra did not attend former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s funeral.

BOOM has found several pictures from live footage from Singh’s funeral, in which many senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, pay their last respects to the former prime minister in New Delhi.

“Forget Sonia – not even Rahul and Priyanka were present at Manmohan Singh’s last rites. This is how they treat non-family members of Congress. Be it Sikh Manmohan Singh, Bengali Brahmin Pranab Da, OBC Sitaram Kesri or Telugu PVNR, they see them as servants,” reads a claim on X.

Manmohan Singh, economist and 13th Prime Minister of India between 2004 and 2014, died on December 26 at the age of 92 due to age-related health problems. He was treated at AIIMS, New Delhi. His cremation took place with full state honors on the banks of the Yamuna River in New Delhi.

Rahul Gandhi pays his last respects to Manmohan Singh

BOOM reviewed multiple evidences of Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders paying their last respects to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

NEWS9 Live streamed footage titled ‘Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh in Nigam Bodh Ghat “The Final Honors” which shows him placing a wreath on Singh’s body.

In another video, Mallikarjun Kharge was captured paying homage to Singh.

We also found ANI News footage of Rahul, Priyanka and Sonia Gandhi at the Congress headquarters in Delhi where they paid their respects.

The Congress party shared photos on X showing Gandhi on the truck during the funeral procession.

In addition, Gandhi shared on Dr. Singh’s humility, leadership and contribution to the country will always remain alive in the pages of history.”
