What awaits you beyond the iPhone 17 – including a big surprise

The year 2024 says goodbye and 2025 is just around the corner. Apple fans are also looking forward to the upcoming innovations. A lot is already known about the iPhone 17, but there will be many more devices. Including a big surprise, something that the iPhone manufacturer does not yet have in its portfolio.

Apple’s innovations in 2025: Not just the iPhone 17

There will also be a whole range of new Apple products in the new year. Although the world traditionally looks to September and the new iPhone 17, something is also happening with iPads, the Apple Watch and Macs. The big surprise: 2025 will be the year for Apple’s big smart home offensive. The focus is on a completely new product – a smart display, a kind of home hub, which was recently in the rumor mill as “Command Center” was designated.

Revealing too much already? If you can’t stand the tension, you shouldn’t read the following list of potential new Apple additions. But we are now Apple’s battle plan for 2025 If you want to find out, you can take a secret look:

  • iPhone SE 4: Coming in spring 2025 with an edge-to-edge OLED display, A18 chip, USB-C port, a 48-megapixel camera and finally Face ID. The home button is now finally obsolete.
  • MacBook Air: New models with 13 and 15 inch displays, as expected, equipped with the current M4 chip and of course 16 GB of RAM as standard. Changes to the design are not on the agenda, but with a bit of luck the integration of the new center stage webcam will be. We should probably see the new models as early as March.
  • iPad Air: The iPad Air, which was only updated in May, will also receive an update in the new year. Apple will most likely integrate the M3 chip; the M4 will probably be reserved for the Pro models. There is disagreement in the rumor mill about the release date. But optimists expect a presentation in the spring.
  • iPad 11: The affordable iPad is finally being “renovated” after three years and made fit for “Apple Intelligence”. Means: At least an A17 Pro and 8 GB of RAM.

Premiere: Apple’s new “Command Center”

  • Smart home display: A “Command Center”, a smart display (6 inches) for controlling smart home devices and more. Can also be mounted on the wall. A first for Apple and the big surprise of the year – expected in spring 2025.
  • Apple TV and HomePod mini: Apple’s set-top box and the small speaker are the first devices to receive Apple’s in-house and combined Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. This will also be found in the new iPhone 17 later in the year.
  • AirTag 2: Apple’s key finder goes into the next round. Improved tracking with updated ultra-wideband chip, better security against misuse and a longer range.
  • Mac Studio: Expected for WWDC 2025 in June with Thunderbolt 5 ports and improved performance. The M4 in its Max and Ultra versions is responsible for this.
  • Mac Pro: Equivalent to the Mac Studio, a new M4-based Mac Pro is also expected.

New Apple products in fall 2025

  • iPhone 17: Launching as usual in fall 2025 with the new A19 chip and 120Hz displays for all models. The Plus model is disappearing, but there is a new variant – “iPhone 17 Air” – with a slimmer design. It will be the thinnest iPhone ever.
  • Apple Watch 11: The new smartwatch model could include new health functions such as blood pressure measurement for the first time.
  • Apple Watch Ultra 3: In addition to blood pressure measurement, a satellite connection for emergencies and 5G connectivity were already mentioned in the reports.
  • MacBook Pro M5: If Apple sticks to schedule, we should see the M5 chip in a new MacBook Pro in late fall. Aside from the chip, there will be fewer innovations. A real redesign and screens with OLED technology will not be available until 2026.

These product updates are unlikely

There is no security for updates to the iMac and Mac mini. Apple also likes to leave out a chip generation. Since both desktop computers received their updates this fall, a further revision could not take place until 2026.

You shouldn’t hope for a new iPad Pro and a cheaper version of the Apple Vision Pro. The successor to the M4 model is not expected again until spring 2026. A new and cheaper version of Apple’s mixed reality headset may be needed even longer. If nothing happens next year, it will probably be 2027 at the earliest.

The MacBook Pro only received an update and the M4 chip at the end of October 2024:
